Nagaland comes alive every December, and Hornbill Festival 2025 (December 1–10) promises to be the grandest yet. Dubbed the “Festival of Festivals,” this 10-day cultural spectacle at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima showcases 16+ Naga tribes in full traditional glory. If you crave authentic indigenous experiences, Hornbill Festival is your unmissable ticket to Northeast India’s soul.
Why is the Hornbill Festival celebrated?

The Hornbill Festival is celebrated to honor and preserve the traditions of the Naga tribes, many of which date back centuries. For the Nagas, the hornbill bird is considered a symbol of bravery, respect, and cultural pride. It is featured in their folklore, dances, and even traditional ornaments. Thus, naming the festival after the bird is both symbolic and intentional—it represents the preservation of identity amidst modernization.
